Napa County Home Owners Value Cultural Resources It’s only natural that Napa County calls to the creative instincts of artists. The beauty of the landscape, and the mind set of Napa Valley home owners who revere and value open space has historically attracted painters, sculptors, musicians, writers and artists in all creative disciplines. An Active Arts Council Napa home owners also value their artists and many community leaders who came together to actively support and enhance cultural arts in Napa County. The Arts Council of Napa County united diverse groups and interests to develop a comprehensive Napa County Cultural Plan. The group’s mission is to make sure the arts “thrive” in Napa County, through arts education, collaboration among arts organizations and actively nurturing artistic talents. The effort of this collaborative Arts Council is not just about art appreciation. There is a recognition that a lively, successful arts community is good business and makes economic sense. Access to so many resources makes it easy for Napa Valley home owners to enjoy world class art and performances without traveling to major markets in the Bay Area. Access to Arts and Artists From the comfort of their homes, Napa families can check the online Master Arts and Culture Calendar to learn what art shows, festivals, musical events, live theatre and literary events are at their doorstep. There are dozens of art galleries to stroll and many Napa wineries feature stunning galleries and outdoor art. The Napa Arts council does active outreach to artists living in the Napa Valley. There is an online Artists’ Registry that displays work and information about area artists; grants are awarded for artists through the organization and its partners, and there is active recruitment of artists to teach the children of Napa home owners in the performing, digital and visual arts. Napa even has its own Poet Laureate. Gary Silva is a retired professor in creative writing whose work has been widely published. From his Napa Valley home, the Poet Laureate promotes and leads events throughout the County that celebrate literary arts. Enjoyment of culture and the arts is a year around delight for Napa Valley residents and visitors.
