Education in the Napa Valley

Education is Essential to Napa Valley Home Owners

Throughout the Napa Valley there is an awareness of the importance of education to the future and well being of Napa home owners and their families. The economic health of the region depends upon an educated and ready work force. Therefore, business organizations, agriculture and education join together to create resources to ensure continued prosperity and opportunities.

Education Resources Abound

Because Napa County is such a vital force in agriculture and all the industries that accompany large scale growing, programs at major universities and colleges focus on the needs of the winemaking region. Napa is able to draw talent from Stanford University, the University of California at Berkeley and the world renowned agricultural-viticulture programs at the University of California in Davis.

Local colleges such as Napa Valley College and Pacific Union College also offer higher education programs close to any Napa Valley home. Yet another innovative educational resource is the New Technology High School, founded in 1996. This cutting-edge program uses technology to prepare students for jobs and higher education. As a California Model Digital High School, it is a national leader that meets and exceeds educational standards.

Demand for Quality Public Education

At the same time, local public schools feature good student to teacher ratios at the county’s six school districts. High schools offer academic and career training courses that focus on individual excellence. The Napa County Office of Education works with local school districts and provides specialized resources to Napa County residents whose children have special needs. Napa County is also home to several private schools that rival the best in the state.

A Job Ready Napa County

The Napa Valley is also home to the Napa County Workforce Investment Board whose mission is to make certain employers in the region have access to trained and job-ready employees. Focusing on work force development, the organization runs one-stop career centers and coordinates training programs and educational opportunities to keep Napa County residents employed in well paying jobs.

Enriching Education

Napa home owners and their school aged children also have the active support of the Napa Valley Education Foundation, a nonprofit group that raises funds for educational projects in public schools throughout the county. Through the efforts of this organization, students are able to access special programs that enrich the public school experience and teachers are given innovative teaching tools.

The Foundation also supports a program to foster music arts education. The Music Connection provides students with access to musical instruments, classes, workshops, experience in orchestras and bands and other resources that keep the Napa Valley alive with the sound of music.

In addition the Arts Council of Napa Valley supplements educational resources in public education. The group brings performing, digital and literary arts education to the middle school children of Napa valley home owners and residents.
